About me

I am an Ecuadorian journalist and strategic communicator with a gender perspective, based in Quito, Ecuador. I currently work as a Senior Communications Officer for Women’s Link Worldwide, an international legal organization that promotes the rights of women and girls in Latin America and the Caribbean, Europe, and East Africa.

For six years, I served as a senior producer and reporter for Radio Ambulante, a podcast that tells stories from Latin America. Before that, I was a junior editor for the Ecuadorian digital magazine GK, where I published stories on gender-based violence, women’s and girls’ rights, LGBTIQ+ rights, and sexual and reproductive rights.

In 2022, I was named an Ochberg Fellow at the Dart Center for Journalism & Trauma at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism. In 2021, I was awarded the Howard G. Buffett Fund for Women Journalists (FWJ) from the International Women Media Foundation (IWMF) to report on faulty contraceptives in Chile. In 2020, I was named an Adelante Fellow at the IWMF to travel to the Guatemala-Mexico border for a reporting trip.

I won the Ecuadorian Jorge Mantilla Ortega Award in the audio category for the Radio Ambulante episode “Mónica, la primera” in 2022. In 2021, I was a finalist in the Best Documentary category of the Third Coast Festival/Richard H. Driehaus Foundation competition with the Radio Ambulante episode “Lorena, mi mamá y yo.” I was also a finalist for the 2020 Roche Health Journalism Award with my Radio Ambulante episode “Nosotras decidimos” about Ecuadorian women’s struggle for access to safe abortion.

In 2017–2018, I was selected as a fellow at the Toni Stabile Center for Investigative Journalism at Columbia University in New York City, where I earned my master’s degree. My master’s thesis investigated how the Ecuadorian government spent funds raised for reconstruction following the 2016 earthquake, and it was later published in GK. I earned my bachelor’s degree from the University of San Francisco in Quito and received three COCOA awards for outstanding work.
